Symphonic Spirit brings together vibrant and powerful works that span centuries, continents, and musical languages. The concert opens with Marianna Martines’s spirited Ouverture in A, a shining example of Classical-era brilliance from a composer whose artistry continues to gain long-overdue recognition.
Violinist Tamsyn Klazek-Schryer, winner of the 2025 UVic Concerto Competition, then takes center stage in Mozart’s elegant and buoyant Violin Concerto No. 2 in D Major.
The second half shifts into a thrilling contrast: Gabriela Ortiz’s Kauyumari—a rhythmically charged, colour-rich work inspired by Huichol cosmology—followed by Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 5, one of the most iconic journeys in the orchestral repertoire.
This program invites audiences into a spectrum of expressive worlds, united by energy, imagination, and symphonic vitality.
